Knowledge is knowing a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is knowing not to put a tomato in a fruit salad. You most likely have more wisdom than you realize. Chronic illness, pain, and trauma eat away at our confidence in knowing that we have wisdom. Is it time to dig up your wisdom?

When you put together a fruit salad, do you think twice about what belongs in it? Most likely not. Most likely you have the basic knowledge of a fruit salad. Most likely you would not add tomatoes. That wisdom is just inside you. You don’t have to dig it up, you don’t have to question it, you don’t have to consult with another to know that most likely you are not going to put tomatoes in a fruit salad. You have that wisdom already in you.

What other chunks of wisdom are in you?

Walking through chronic illness can diminish one’s ability to see that they have any wisdom. We can start to question ourselves on every decision and every thought because life seems to get turned upside down through these seemingly endless struggles.

Reminding ourselves that we do have some wisdom inside of us can be something positive to do while we fight our battles of illness and trauma.

If you don’t know you have any wisdom inside of you, start with a fruit salad. What would you choose to put in it? Get to the grocery store (or ask for help) and get some nourishing wisdom.
